How To Create White Space In Your Calendar To Increase Productivity
Ummmmmmm......... what was that again?
Does your calendar have white space?
What was that? What space?
If you haven’t listened to someone talk about time planning strategies before this may be a totally new concept for you. The good news is – it’s not a complicated one.
White space is just that – white. space. A blank time block on your calendar with nothing written there (and not just because you wrote so small that you had extra space left over).
So many times we have more to do than time to do it. That gnawing feeling of needing to get more done causes us to fill every minute of our day for the entire week.
While that might sound like they best way to get more done it’s actually a terrible strategy.
How many weeks have you had where absolutely nothing unexpected came up?
Um….. 🤔
Planning white space into your calendar helps you adjust when unexpected things interrupt your day. You can accomplish your priorities for the day and shift the less important or less urgent items to another time without completely derailing your plans.
Think of it as catch-up time or breathing room.
Name it whatever you like. Just make sure you have it scheduled into your week.
If this isn’t something you already do I have 2 strategies for you try.
- You can plan a specific amount of time into each day to account for unexpected items or…… (I like options)
- You can plan a large block of time at the end of the week to take care of the meetings, tasks or errands that you had to shift.
Try scheduling some white space into your calendar this week and be sure to let me know what you think.
Y'all have a great week!
