What New Habit Will Help You Reach Your Goals?

What You Do Will Shape Who You Become

Whether we are aware of our habits or not, we all have them. Let’s look at some ways that our daily habits help us achieve our goals.

Habits Can Simplify Your Life by Automating Decision Making

When you are very busy you are probably also making a lot of decisions which can result in mental fatigue.

While the results of decision fatigue may be different for you than for someone else, research confirms that the amount of time you spend making decisions drains your energy.

In 2019, Cindy Lamothe writing for Healthline.com offered 4 classic signs of decision fatigue:

  • Procrastination
  • Impulsivity
  • Avoidance
  • Indecision

Most of us eat at least 3 times a day. Something as simple as meal planning can reduce multiple decisions throughout the week. You not only know what to prepare for each meal but also what to purchase at the grocery store.

Every decision that we make requires both time and mental energy.

What decisions can you automate through a habit that will eliminate hundreds of decisions down the road?

Habits Can Shape Your Success

Most habits are small occurrences with great impact on our lives over time. A few examples of small habits that can shape your success are:

  • Creating notes immediately after a meeting while the information is fresh on your mind to save time and mental energy.
  • Journaling for a few minutes each day to process your thoughts or boost your writing skills.
  • Taking the stairs rather than the elevator to increase daily activity and improve your health.
  • Scheduling a standing lunch date or evening with friends to stay socially connected.

Habits can also undermine your success. Have you ever gone down the rabbit hole of checking the news or social media first thing in the morning only to realize you have used up the time you intended to spend doing something productive?

How can your daily habits help shape your future success?

Habits Can Help You Be More Intentional About the Things in Your Life

A habit of a regular date night with your spouse means that you are purposefully investing in that relationship. It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive but intentionally scheduling the time prevents the busyness of life from getting in the way.

A habit of reviewing your goals and clarifying your priorities doesn’t take much time. Intentionally identifying your top 3 priorities for each day results in accomplishing over 800 priorities in a year. Think of what you can achieve with that kind of clarity and intention.

What habit can you change to be more intentional this week?

Reaching your goals is hard work and creating good habits can help you get there.

Be intentional in the habits you create so that they lead to the transformation you desire.

Y'all have a great week!
