Are Your Priorities Reflected In Your Calendar?

Renee' H. Ferguson

If they aren't, you'll be frustrated.

We have all heard the phrase, “What gets scheduled, gets done.”

You may have even said it a time or two (I know I have 😉).

We know that scheduling time for our priorities helps us accomplish our goals. So, why do we let everything and everyone else fill up our days rather than protecting our time for what matters most?

I'm not saying you are overfilling your days with bad things. I do want you to consider if they are the right things?

Follow these steps to make sure that you are adding the right things to your calendar.

1. Review your monthly and quarterly goals

What action steps must you take this week to make progress toward your goals? Schedule those activities into the most productive times on your calendar.

2. Identify any time-sensitive items

Scheduling a doctor's appointment might not be in your goals list, but it still needs to get done. What appointments need to be scheduled, bills need to be paid, phone calls should be placed, applications should be submitted, etc... Set time aside on your calendar for these things.

3. Review any errands for the week

Batch your errands based on location to save both time and gas money.

4. What do you need to remove from your calendar?

Most of us have things on our calendar that really shouldn't be there. You may not be able to get out of them this week, but begin making plans so you no longer have the commitment.

When I was homeschooling our boys I was routinely asked to do things during the day because I was home. The individuals making the requests weren't being inconsiderate - they had no idea how full our day was.

The thing is, they didn't have to know. But, I did.  It was my responsibility to protect our days and protect what we as a family had chosen to do.

I learned to politely say "no" to various opportunities - not because they were bad but because they weren't right for us at that time. It was difficult at first but became easier with practice.

Do you need to practice saying no this week?

Protect your time. Protect your priorities.

Y'all have a great week!
